Hampton Roads is starting to get the picture.
We are a community full of young adults who are thirsting for a more edgy and contemporary culture. Lately that is exactly what we are being given and I for one am loving it!
The Chrysler Museum has brought in a new Curator {Amy Brandt} who is looking to ”bring in some of the most important, cutting-edge work, and hopefully bring in new audiences.” Her career has been based in New York until now and at 32 is finishing up her Doctorate at The Graduate Center at City University of New York in Manhattan. To read more about Amy and her background please visit The Virginia Pilot. I cant wait to see what she brings to the table.
Some Chrysler pieces….
The Contemporary Art Center of Virginia has formed a new board composed of young Adult Professionals who call themselves the Young Contemporaries {I believe this is correct…maybe just Contemporaries} and have established the tagline “Contemporaries: putting the ART in pARTy.” I have had the privilege of attending their events at the CAC and they are fabulous! They offer a melting pot of personalities and styles in a relaxed atmosphere. Nobody is more artsy than the other and everyone has their own opinions. They have a cash bar set up {coffee, water, spirits..what have you} and Hors d’oeuvres set around the room with a mingle as you will vibe. Their showcases spotlight local artists and established artist alike. They have just begun to make a name for themselves and will continue to do so every 3rd Thursday of each month at the CAC. Bravo Contemporaries!!

Also not to forget Epic Productions, a local company that has made its mission to expose our community to artists who create anything and everything to be considered art. This leaves the door wide open on what you may find at an Epic Show. If you have been to one of these shows then I am sure you have yet to be disappointed or bored! Word on the street is to expect big things for 2011! Cant wait!
It does not stop here….
This Friday, April 1st 2011, the good ol’ newly cultured HR has gone to great lengths to present to you by Mannequin Productions in coordination with national designer Jules Reid a New York style Fashion Show benefiting CHKD. Along with Jules Reid, this event has brought in fashions from Banana Republic, Closet Envy, Provisions and Fink Jewelry to make it a truly spectacular runway event. Seating is set up so everyone gets that ‘front row’ feel and the runway has taken up almost the entire space in the Norfolk Ballroom at the Marriott in Norfolk. Tickets are selling for $80.00 of which only 400 will be sold. In that price aside from the ‘warm fuzzy feel good’ feeling for donating to a great cause everyone will receive a gift bag from Saks 5th Avenue. The evening will also include a Whiskey Tasting Bar {gentlemen please enjoy}, hors d’oeuvres, a silent auction, and paparazzi portraits. The finale auction will be a Jules Reid dress modeled by Elexa Nosonchuck, a CHKD patient battling lung disease. All proceeds will go to CHKD! This is guaranteed to be a wonderful and entertaining event! Did I mention you will find me there walking the runway!! There, I just gave you an $80.00 reason to not miss this event! For more information and to purchase tickets please visit KD Couture. From the looks of it tickets are almost sold out with only about 60 left!!!!
